Carding
Carding removes the dead undercoat of a dog's hair, leaving the topcoat intact. Carding is often done before clipping or scissoring the topcoat. It can help the topcoat lay flatter and look better. Carding is typically done on dogs with thick or double coats, such as Cocker Spaniels, Setters, Goldens, Huskies, Collies, and Pomeranians. It can also be done on short-coated dogs, such as Pugs, Chihuahuas, and Labs.
Hand Stripping
Hand stripping removes the topcoat of a dog's hair by pulling it out from the root. This allows a new coat to grow in. Hand stripping can be painful for dogs with sensitive skin if the hair is removed too roughly.
